I am so thankful for the ladies in ministry from the United Methodist Women here at Liberal FUMC. They are always willing to provide for others, and that includes funeral meals. They offered the family today a meal even though it was a holiday weekend. I know this is a tradition of our UMW, and I know it goes on in other churches as well. It's one of the things the ladies do that often goes unrecognized. I wanted to recognize them today and tell them how much I appreciate their hard work and dedication. AND they always seem to remember the pastor at meal time - another reason to give thanks!
The Prairie View Elementary School Ice Cream Social is this Thursday, August 29th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. WE NEED HELP! We need to provide ice cream AND workers for the event. You may bring your ice cream to the church by Thursday at 2:00 p.m., or deliver it directly to the school. Workers need to show up at about 5:45 p.m. to prepare to serve. PLEASE HELP US TO GET THE PV SCHOOL YEAR STARTED OFF WELL!!!
Our next to last of the "Messages of Strength" series features a gem from II Timothy, brought to us by Helen Radohl. It's a letter, supposedly from Paul, to one of his disciples, Timothy, who may be struggling to demonstrate his faith in the midst of others who would try to keep it down. Paul tells Timothy that God has given him - and all of us - a good gift that lives in our hearts and souls. It's not the gift of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind. I think sometimes we struggle with the seemingly impossible task of turning our world into a world of love, but God is with us and has given us the tools to do our mission. Come and hear my thoughts on that this Sunday, August 25 at either our 8:30 a.m. service or our 11:00 a.m. service. The second service is also broadcast live on 1270 KSCB, and live streamed at their website, kscbnews.net.
Late posting, but still an important scripture and another of our "Messages of Strength," submitted for this week's message by Keith O'Donnell. God has a long history of providing bread for the hunger of his flock, but that bread is only part of what God provides that sustains us. Jesus knew that, so when Satan's first temptation of Jesus was to sate his hunger by turning stones to bread, Jesus answered that there was more to what we need, and he used a verse from Deuteronomy to resist the temptation. Join us on Sunday, August 18th to find out more. Worship is at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. in our beautiful sanctuary. Or listen to us live at 11:00 a.m. on the radio at 1270 am or streaming online at kscbnews.net.
I stepped out of the church at just the right time this evening. God-created masterpiece....
Our summer series continues with this very well known scripture brought to us by Tony Claus. I know that many people turn to this to have their faith strengthened or revived. It was Paul's purpose to the Romans when he wrote this letter, and it continues to serve that purpose for us today. The sermon title this week is "Putting Your Eggs In One Basket." Come and see how I tie this to the words of Paul. Worship is at 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 11th. We live broadcast the 11:00 a.m. service, both on the air on 1270 KSCB am, or live streamed on their website, kscbnews.net. I hope you can join us!
A very familiar passage for this Sunday's "Messages of Strength" series, and yet one that is only included in the Revised Common Lectionary for the New Year's Sunday. It is an interesting message, written in an interesting style, and used in many interesting ways throughout history, including being the oldest-written lyrics ever used in a Billboard #1 hit single back in 1965. Prepare to open your minds a little as we talk about the Infinite God and the finite world that was created for us. Worship is at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 4th. If you can't be here with us in the sanctuary, you can listen live at 11:00 a.m. on KSCB 1270 a.m., or live streaming at kscbnews.net.
Something a little different this coming Sunday - we will be looking at the messages contained in the entirety of Psalm 143, brought to us by Cristy Mulanax. Written by King David, it's considered to be one of the seven "Penitential Psalms." As per most scripture, it has powerful messages for us in our time. Join us this Sunday, July 28, with services at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. If you can't make it in person, you can listen live at 11:00 on 1270 am KSCB, or streaming on their website, kscbnews.net.
We are back with the apostle Paul this week studying a passage suggested by Lindy Heitschmidt. As we look at these words, I'm also going to bring in a couple of passages that I could call "companion verses" to this message. We will look at how Christ turns weaknesses into strengths in our lives, and how that was one of his intentions from the very start of his ministry. Join us in person at 3rd and Grant in Liberal at either our 8:30 or 11:00 a.m. services, or listen live at 11:00 to 1270 KSCB, or live streaming through their website at kscbnews.net.
Our summer series "Messages of Strength: The Words of our Lives" continues with this gem from 1st John, offered by Susan Koons as one of her personal messages. We will look at how the Power of Light drives out the darkness in our lives, since that power comes from Jesus, who has no darkness about him at all. Please join us - in person at either 8:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m., or broadcast live at 11:00 a.m. on 1270 KSCB, or streaming live online at kscbnews.net.
We continue our summer series titled "Messages of Strength - the Words Of Our Lives" with a second look at Philippians 4:4-13, concentrating on the second half of that passage and in particular, the very familiar last verse, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." As usual, our first Sunday of the month means we will also be joining in Holy Communion, with an open table that is available for all. If you can't join us in person, please tune in to 1270 KSCB radio at 11:00 a.m., or to their website - kscbnews.net to listen via live streaming.
Good afternoon, friends! Today's Liberal Leader/Times has a newspaper article about Brent Anderson. Brent was one of the American Legion members that helped with the Memorial Day Sunday worship services here at FUMC Liberal. He was in great pain that day, and since then, he has been diagnosed with stomach cancer. I sent his name out for a prayer request earlier. The article tells us his complete story, and includes information where donations to help with his travel and lodging expenses can be made. Please continue to keep Brent and his family in your prayers. http://www.liberalfirst.com/local-news/local-vet-in-fight-of-his-life-with-stomach-cancer?fbclid=IwAR0KuoaICH6Zg_1Is39RF1XCYQn2HJc3jFHtH7grqkzwImZ2cdvTH20PTpA
One passage from Philippians equals TWO "Messages of Strength" from two different members of the congregation. For the next two weeks, we will be looking at the closing of Paul's letter to the church at Philippi to see which verses stood out, and what we can learn from them. Join is in person on Sunday, June 30 at 8:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. If you can't make it live in person, listen to the 11:00 service on 1270 KSCB, or to the live streaming coverage at kscbnews.net.
This morning during worship, we learned of a friend of JoAnne Mansell that has moved to Liberal and is in need of some items, since she was not able to bring much of anything with. Below is the list if items she could use to set up her new residence. If you have any of these items, or know where we might be able to get some, please contact me by replying to this Facebook page, or calling the church office. If need be, I can arrange transportation to have an item picked up. If you don't have items but would like to help, we can always accept cash donations and present her with a gift card to some place like Wal-Mart or a voucher to the Classy Rack store here in town. Again, call or email me or reply to this page with the amount you'd like to donate and bring your check or cash to the office this week or to worship next Sunday. *Living Room Chair or Recliner (She has one chair and two lawn chairs) Sofa or Love Seat *Kitchen *Small table/chairs (A friend has helped with kitchen and bathroom items) *Bedroom Bed (She is currently sleeping on an air mattress) Chest or Dresser Night stand Sheets/bedding *Clothing Size 14 (She was able to bring a few items with her)
It's week four of our summer series "Messages of Strength: The Words of our Lives," and the passage we turn to this week is the first one brought by a member of our congregation. Susan Lukwago brings us 1st Thessalonians 5:16-18 as a key passage in her faith life. I hope you can join us as we look at this wonderful set of instructions Paul has left for us - we'll see you on Sunday!
Week three of our summer series "Messages of Strength: The Words Of our Lives" is a passage written by King David, after he was "called out" for the atrocious sins he was committing, and his response in seeking to regain favor in the eyes of God. Psalm 51 is that response, and it's a fitting response for us as well when we fall short and seek forgiveness from God. Join us on Sunday, June 16 at either the 8:30 or 11:00 services, or listen to KSCB 1270 a.m. at 11:00 to hear that service broadcast live.
The second week of our summer series "Messages of Strength: The Words Of our Lives" tells the difference of a life following a thief or an outlaw, versus a life following Jesus, the gatekeeper of his sheep. John 10:10 tells us the result of following Jesus - a richer, fuller, more abundant life. Join us on Sunday, June 2 at either the 8:30 or 11:00 services, or listen to KSCB 1270 a.m. at 11:00 to hear that service broadcast live.
